Pale Pink Big Bow Pillow

After my last post, my first big bow pillow, I decided to give it another shot. I knew I could do better than that. I still think the first pillow is pretty, but I have to admit, that first bow is a little of the bozo-the-clown-size variety.

I think I got the hang of it with this one.

I love pale pink.

And I love the crisp folds of soft cotton fabric.

I so appreciate it when someone takes notice of my work.

Thank you to fiveforty, a fellow etsy seller, for including me in her lovely treasury Pale and Very Pretty.

It reminds me why I put so much thought, time and energy into the things I make. So someone will treasure them like I do.

Big bow pillow

It's sad to admit, but I've been so caught up in ruffles that I completely forgot how much I love bows!

Since I also love pillows, I wanted to put the two together. For inspiration, I googled "Big Bow Pillow" and found a link to a Big Bow Pillow. Imagine that. The internet really works.

I thought her idea was really cute, so I decided to pull out some of my flannel material (because I love soft) and found some complimentary sheer polyester, for a daintier touch, to use for a bow.

Maybe mine should be called Giant Bow Pillow because I think I got overzealous, but I still love how it turned out.

Soft, cozy flannel with just the right touch of sheer elegance.

Now if I can just find a place to put it.

A little sweater definition

Webster's Dictionary defines sweater as...

Okay, I don't mean that kind of definition.

I'm talking about definition, as in making something more distinct. As in my waist. As in I look like I'm a tent with no waist line when wearing this sweater and I need a little help.

It's a very cute sweater as is, but with my proportions, I need a little something to define my waist.

First, I tried this cute belted look, but on me, it looked like I had a major case of muffin top. And the only muffin top I want is of the almond poppyseed variety.


Next, I tried this over-the-sweater-belted look, which is very cute, but on me it looked like I was packing more than a few muffins.
What to do, what to do...

So I opted for a simpler form of waist line definition, to draw the eye in while keeping more of a sleek, drapy line.

And what do you know, it worked!

By sewing a skinny piece of matching ribbon in on the existing inside seams, both sides come together, adding a natural, more subtle waist line.

All this and not a muffin in sight.
Not bad. Not bad at all.

Newsie - newspaper. reader. reporter. news enthusiast pillow

This Newsie pillow case was so much fun to make! I wanted something unique and eye-catching and love how it turned out.

I made the 12" x16" pillow case out of soft, white jersey knit with an existing newsprint design. I'm sure there's a way to make your own newsprint design...I might have to try that at some point.

That blush color was too good to pass up, so I accentuated it with a touch of femininity and texture.

and I couldn't leave the back out, so I brought around a little design from the front.

A perfectly fun little pillow design for an avid newspaper reader, writer, reporter or news enthusiast. As for me? Although I do watch the news and read a newspaper now and again, I happen to just like the way it looks. And isn't that what design is all about? Maybe I should ask Nate Berkus.

If I could stay home and sew all day

I've had a funny poem running through my head the last half hour, while cleaning up my big sewing mess, called, "If I could stay home and sew all day". It's pretty darn funny. The only problem is, since I'm making it up as I go, I can't remember it.

Sigh.

In a nutshell, I had BIG DREAMS for this day, big dreams.

It's spring break for the school district I work for and I had all day today to stay at home and sew.

I had high hopes of getting several pillows done that I need for the crafters showcase I'm joining in a couple weeks. And once I got those done, I was going to work on a couple of skirts that I keep putting on the back burner. And once I got those done, well who knew, the sky's the limit!

Anywho...I think you know where this is going. Maybe I'm just a crazy optimist, but things never seem to go as quickly as I think they'll go.
