Clothes hoarder

I'm getting into a bad habit.
I clean out my closet and then keep the things I want to give-away so I can refashion them.

I can't help it. I see them as a stack of fabric. And heaven forbid I give away fabric.

And I have to admit it. I have two other stacks like this.
I'm so ashamed.

What if I cut up two shirts, and create a totally new one? What if I make a few alterations to an old sweater to totally transform it? What if I turn my old suede skirt into a stylish vest? The options are endless!

Some call it hoarding.
I call it keeping.

When I first started sewing, I had the re-fashion bug. Big time.
I refashioned a men's shirt to a skirt, a tablecloth to an apronadded big ruching to a sweateradded sequins to top or twoadded ruffles to t-shirts, and cut up a tank top to make one with tiered ruffles...

Oh heck, here's a link to all my refashions
Listing them separately is useless.
The real question is, what didn't I refashion?!

I'm currently working on a simple t-shirt refashion that I'll share with you once it's done. It's based on making a short t-shirt (that shrunk) a little longer. And no, this refashion doesn't use any of my left-over clothes. But someday I might just need them to do that!! hahaha Must. Keep. Clothes.

My birthday suit

Okay, it's not what you think.
I'm actually talking about my birthday outfit. Meaning fully clothed.
And yes, I was going for shock value.

In honor of my birthday last week, I decided to go shopping. I really had nothing to wear and who wants to turn a year older with the same old clothes?

I'll admit, I'm not really a shopper. I have to be in the right mood. But I made an exception for my birthday and after way too long inside the department store, I came out with my new birthday outfit.

Sorry, you get the dress form version. I don't like pictures of myself. Maybe later.

Okay, here's the low down.
The new items are the shirt and jeans. Yes, even that took me hours to find.
I already had the jean jacket and necklace, but found it added just the right touch.

I LOVE the ruffle at the bottom of the shirt. The material is really delicate (maybe tissue jersey?), with clear sequins sewn up the front.

I like how the antique-ish necklace added a pop of color, while maintaining the style.

I was surprised to learn that as far as Levi's are concerned, that I'm curvy. Imagine that. I've always known I could stand to lose a few pounds, but I never really thought of myself as curvy. But I guess if the jeans fit...

And P.S.? If you decide to take a picture with your dress form? Remember where you put it. I took my photos, went to do other things and when I walked back in the front room I about had a heart attack. Someone was standing in my front room. Breathe. It's just your mannequin.

Refashion with sequins

I love sequins. I can't deny it.

And after being so happy with the way my short-sleeved black sequin t-shirt refashion turned out, I knew there was another sequin shirt in my future.

So I pulled out the remainder of a sequin scarf I bought on clearance at Kohls,

cut off two more pieces and sewed them on horizontally.

The ordinary long sleeved black shirt before ...

And after a little sequin magic:

I love how it turned out.

How many times is it okay to mention the word sequins in a post?
I think I may have set a new record.

Sequin embellished t-shirt refashion

Sequins are in. And I love a little sparkle. So when I found a sequin scarf and black t-shirt on clearance at Kohl's, I knew the two were meant to be together.

The scarf is made of black t-shirt knit with single columns of black sequins

By simply cutting the scarf to the length of the t-shirt and sewing the edges down the middle of the shirt, the sequin black tee was born.

I've gotten so many compliments on it. And that makes me happy.

Here are a couple pictures lightened so you can see it a little better (but it really is dark black).

Sewing with sequins is on my mind now...if only Kohl's had a bunch of clearance scarves left...

I'm finding that sequins on mesh are hard to find unless you special order them. I've seen sequins with elastic and sequins on a strand of thread, but nothing like the scarf. Oh well, I guess it makes mine a real original. :)

Here is another sequin shirt refashion. Same scarf, different idea!
